Boca misses key chance

ArsenalGoals by Nicolás Aguirre, Milton Caraglio and Ramiro Carrera gave Arsenal de Sarandí a 3-2 victory over Boca Juniors, which wasted its opportunity to climb to the top of the standings.

Boca Juniors missed its chance to reach the top of the standings yesterday as it suffered a 3-2 defeat against Arsenal in its visit to Sarandí in a match for the 16th round of the Initial Tournament.

Carlos Bianchi’s team wasted the opportunity to be alongside San Lorenzo at the top and was clearly beaten by a strong Arsenal side which is unbeaten at home in the tournament.

Nicolás Aguirre scored a magnificent goal from outside the box in the 14th minute, while Milton Caraglio doubled the difference in the 26th with a lob over goalkeeper Emanuel Trípodi.

Matías Caruzzo pulled one back for the visitors with a header in the 49th, but Ramiro Carrera sealed the victory for the host with a header after Aguirre’s cross five minutes later.

However, Claudio Riaño scored for Boca in the 76th when the match was all for Arsenal.

The Copa Argentina champion Arsenal, which leapfrogged Boca in the standings to be in fourth place, was the dominant side during the game and deserved the victory.
