Scioli-Church meeting to discuss drug trade

ScioliBuenos Aires province governor Daniel Scioli confirmed today that he will be meeting Catholic Bishops on Monday to address concerns about drug-trafficking following increasing demands by social, political and religious sectors to tackle an illegal business that is hitting Argentina.

Provincial Security and Justice ministers Alejandro Granados and Ricardo Casal will be joining the governor in next week’s reunion.

In recent statements, Scioli said he shared the Church’s concerns after the Argentine Episcopal Conference released a document urging further drug fight efforts.

“I share the Church’s concern about this scourge that has seen us work in two action lines; on the addict (side), which is a matter of public health, and on (the side of) criminal and mafia organizations which we are battling,” the ex vice president during the Néstor Kirchner administration affirmed during an address at the provincial government house last weekend.
