‘Judges don’t go to the borders because they’re afraid of snakes,’ Berni

BerniAs drug-trafficking concerns continue to spark strong debate, Security Secretary Sergio Berni responded to the Supreme Court’s resolution urging for political efforts in the fight against drug trade in Argentina’s Northern provinces.

“I have invited judges to come and work with us in the border; many of them don’t want to go because they are afraid of snakes, spiders and because heat annoys them. Others have a tremendous panic and terror because when we go through the border in helicopter there is shooting on the other side of the border. Many talk but only a few of us have the courage and bravery to be there and contribute with solutions,” Berni told reporters today.

The secretary said he “praised” the Court’s statement. “I guess know they will appoint 100 more people at the Orán city. I am sure they will strengthen the workforce,” he said and added that “judicial cooperation” is “too important” to increase efforts in the war on drugs.
