The human rights leader denounced «complicity» in yesterday’s jailbreak that resulted in the escape of the ex military official Alejandro Lawless who was serving time for crimes against humanity committed during Argentina’s 1976-1983 dictatorship.
“It is negligence or, to think the worst, complicity. This is serious, it will have to be investigated and those responsible sanctioned,” Estela de Carlotto told reporters today.
The Former Army colonel has been sentenced over his involvenment in human rights violations. Lawless escaped on Tuesday after he had being transferred by the Airport Security Police (PSA) to court.
“He is an elderly person, he doesn’t run much. I think there is complicity; he managed to escape so easy,” the head of the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo organization insisted.
According to investigators, 62-year old Lawless actually disappeared among other people passing by at the courthouse and walked away while PSA officers were checking on other prisoners.
“Many prisoners are escaping lately. Something strange is happening,” Carlotto said.
Lawless’ case is the third escape in the past months of a repressor convicted over crimes against humanity.
