Vice President Boudou attends funeral.
Several politicians, including Vice-President and acting president Amado Boudou, paid their respects at the funeral of the mayor of Lobería in Buenos Aires province Hugo Rodríguez, who was murdered on Saturday by a former member of staff.
Rodríguez and one of his colleagues were shot to death on Saturday afternoon while on a walk in the Narcisco del Valle Municipal Park by Julio Aldecoa, a former member of his Cabinet who had recently been fired.
The Lobería Cabinet secretary, Silvio Vidal, said that it was normal for Rodríguez and Alvarez to take a walk around the park where they were killed, stating that they “were very good friends and anybody would have known to find them there.”
The former municipal employee was immediately arrested after allegedly shooting Rodríguez and a workshop director, Héctor Alvarez.
Police placed him under house arrest until yesterday, when he was transferred to the police department of neighbouring Necochea. He was reportedly transferred for security reasons, as hundreds of neighbours tried to light Aldecoa’s house on fire after hearing he was being detained there. He will likely be indicted today.
Politicians pay respects
The wake lasted almost the entire day. Boudou and Buenos Aires Province deputy Governor Gabriel Mariotto attended the wake alonside several other regional political leaders.
After the wake, Rodríguez’s body was buried at the local cemetery.
Buenos Aires Governor Daniel Scioli said he was “greatly saddened” over the death of the mayor, describing the crime as “insanity.”
The murder report revealed Álvarez died almost instantly, while the mayor died on the way to the Lobería’s municipal hospital. Álvarez’s body was found only 150 metres from Rodríguez when police arrived.
Hugo César Rodríguez was born on March 12, 1950 in Lobería. He held his first political office in 1991, when he was elected town councilman for the Peronist party. Rodríguez was first elected mayor of Lobería in 2003, ending a 12-year period of Radical Party (UCR) governments.

DOG WOMAN FOUND
The woman who killed her neighbour in the City’s Villa Bosch neighbourhood for complaining about the 17 dogs she kept in her home was imprisoned yesterday. Liliana Inés Bargas was caught yesterday in the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of Palermo after being a fugitive since Thursday, when she shot to death 41-year-old Carmen Aurora Zorzoli, who had complained about her dogs. Bargas was caught after a bystander alerted police that she had seen a woman who looked similar to Bargas on Santa Fe and Fray Justo Santamaría de Oro.
