Driver Julio Benítez.
The driver of the train that crashed at Once station on Saturday gave his version of events to Judge Ariel Lijo today in the Retiro Courts, as he defends himself against the accusation that he was responsible for the collision that left 99 people injured.
Julio Benítez was transferred from hospital direct to the proceeding at Comodoro Py, where he met with lawyers before speaking before the justice. The 45-year old driver remained at the Dupuyten clinic until 12pm today, where he was treated for some injuries under police guard.
The operator is accused of criminal neglect, and of attempting to steal the hard disk of the cabin camera inside the locomotive at the time of the crash.
The Sarmiento line train crashed into the retaining wall of platform 2 at the Once station in Buenos Aires city, same site of the February 22, 2012 tragedy that claimed the lives of 51 people and injured 600.
