The Santa Fe provincial government, as well as Defence Minister Agustín Rossi, were in agreement today as they stated their belief that a recent attack on governor Antonio Bonfatti was part of an ongoing battle against drug trafficking gangs in the region.

«The response from these gangs, this murderous reaction against a state which is firm and determined, is because Santa Fe is telling the truth,» Santa Fe security minister Raúl Lamberto stated.

«Santa Fe does not hide its problems. Santa Fe brings its problems to light; it reveals its statistics and this is big in a country that hides them.»

Lamberto also confirmed that four people, including a member of the security forces, had been apprehended for Friday’s attack on the Bonfatti residence.

Rossi echoed the sentiments of his provincial counterpart, stating that the attack was a reaction to the initiatives put in place by the Santa Fe government to curb drug sales, especially in the city of Rosario.

«In the last few months I have to admit that we see much more energetic, more complete government action in the province with respects to drug trafficking,» the politician remarked, adding that the attacks «intimidate the family structure of all of us.»
