President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has commented on the US government shutdown and Barack Obama’s attempts to reform medical care, stating that public health was a key obligation for any governing party.
The head of state led the inauguration of a tractor factory in General Rodríguez, Buenos Aires, where she reviewed her Government’s achievements and emphasized the investment spent in the industrial sector. She also made reference to the current stand-off in the US Federal Government.
«Today [medical reforms] were being discussed in a first-world nation, with massive development; if a program for those most volunerable is being introduced, maybe we, who are more ‘South American’, know that the state has a very important role in public health,» Kirchner affirmed, alongside Lomas de Zamora mayor Martín Insaurralde.
«If Peronism and Eva Perón taught us anything. it was that public health is the responsibility of the state.»
Cristina underlined the investment of 55 million pesos in the former French Hospital (now called César Milstein) in the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of San Cristobal as evidence of this commitment, as well as highlighting the growth of industry and technology across the nation.
