Strikes from Teo Gutierrez and Manuel Lanzini helped River Plate keep their Copa Sudamericana campaign on track, as the Nuñez club beat Liga de Loja 2-0 in order to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition.
Trailing 1-0 after the first leg in Ecuador, the Millonarios put themselves into a strong position when Teo converted from short-range a pass from young playmaker Lanzini.
The strike meant that River were now ahead on the away goals rule, but a less than enterprising performance attracted insults late on from sections of the Monumental crowd.
Those jeers were eliminated when Lanzini hit late on to secure the victory, 3-2 on aggregate.
River move on to the last-eight, where they will face Argentine opposition in the shape of Lanús.
