Gov’t takes control of three more railway lines

railwayIn another step towards the state control of the railway system, the government announced the nationalization of three other lines which connect the City of Buenos Aires to the provinces of Tucumán and Córdoba, passing through Santa Fe and Santiago del Estero provinces.

Resolution number 1093/13 issued by the Interior and Transport Minister announced such decision over a line operated by Ferrocentral S.A. railway company.
The government had started this nationalization process of the train system in August when it took control of the Roca, Belgrano Sur and San Martín railway lines. On September 12, it decided to do the same with the Sarmiento and Mitre lines.

“We’re going to prove that the state is a better train operator than any private company,” President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner said on Tuesday, openly defending the government’s takover of the railway system.
