Kirchnerite Senator Aníbal Fernández rejected the idea of lowering the age of criminal responsibility to 14 years old after congressional candidate Martín Insaurralde proposed it last week raising a strong debate.
«I would not vote to lower the age of criminal responsibility.” Fernández said today as he considered “certain extraordinary cases have provoked an exacerbation of the situation showing a small universe as it was most of it.”
Insaurralde had asserted he was willing to “discuss a new criminal regime for youngsters” although he later tried to tone down his statements saying “nobody is saying that the kids have to go to jail.”
Fernández today admitted it’s an issue which needs to be discussed although he said “there is a more important legislation and international treaties” which protect the rights of the children.
