Rescue teams working on the site of the gas explosion in Rosario have confirmed that another body has been found in the debris, taking the current number of fatalities to 11 since Tuesday’s tragedy.
The body was found in one of the stairwells of the tower which looks on Salta street, in the centre of the Santa Fe province city.
«There is a body amongst the rubble,» Rosario Civil Defence director Raúl Rainone confirmed on Thursday afternoon. 11 bodies have so far been found after the explosion, all of which have been identified apart from the most recent victim.
Gas technician repairman Carlos Osvaldo García and his assistant who were trying to repair the building’s gas system have been detained for questioning in connection with the explosion.
Around 25 teams of catastrophe and rescue experts continue to work on the disaster area with main focus on the search for missing people as well as on safety issues to determine impacts and risk of collapse in nearby buildings also hit by the explosion.
Meanwhile, the national government announced a two-day national mourning with President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner visiting the victims of the worst tragedy in Rosario’s recent history on Wednesday.
