Opposition calls on Moreno to quit after ‘attack’ on journalists

BullrichLawmakers from different opposition blocs have asked for the resignation of Domestic Trade secretary Guillermo Moreno, due to «attacks» on journalists, through a motion presented in the lower house.

The initiative, spearheaded by lawmaker Patricia Bullrich, was supported by legislators Paula Bertol, Laura Alonso, Omar De Marchi, Roberto Padrines, Gerardo Milman, Eduardo Amadeo and Omar Duclos.

«We demand the immediate resignation of the Domestic Trade secretary, due to the verbal attacks made on the journalists [both from Clarín] Silvia Naishtat and Walter Curia,» the legislators signalled, referring to the events of the past week in the US embassy.

In the motion entered in the lower house on Wednesday, the legislators considered that «this type of arrogant and confrontational attitude should come to an end.»

«Countless people in the business, commercial, societal and journalistic worlds suffer attacks like this on a daily basis,» the opposition continued.

They added in the motion: «Respect for those who think differently is the base for living together in a democratic system.»
