Scioli calls for end to midterm elections

ScioliBuenos Aires Governor Daniel Scioli said today there should be an electoral reform to end with midterm elections, as citizens are more concerned about the government’s administration than about arguments between politicians.

“Yesterday, Karina (the governor’s wife) reminded me we are holding elections every one year and a half. Maybe in the future we will have to rethink this so that all mandates last four years, and we are not racing every one year an a half,” the governor said.

“As soon as October elections end, we will be thinking about 2015 elections,” he added and stressed “electoral campaigns alter the government’s agenda and sometimes bear a dramatic tone.”

“This is a legislative election, executive terms will continue,” he added and insisted: “The list of people’s problems is the most important list.”

Scioli rejected versions he received pressure by the government to shape his list of candidates ahead of the elections, and suggested to leave the presidential succession debate for 2015.
