BA province teachers to consider new salary offer

BaradelThe Buenos Aires province government offered teachers a new salary proposal that union representatives said «they would consider,» after renewed negotiations in La Plata.

SUTEBA’s education union leader Roberto Baradel admited the proposal «takes into account some of the sector’s claims» and assured that «it will be discussed with the unionized teachers to define the whether we take it or now».

Buenos Aires province officials and unionized teachers met in the afternoon hoping to settle a 3-month salary row that is affecting almost 5 million students.

Before the meeting started, The Union Front leader Mirta Petrocini affirmed: «We expect the better offer [from the government], othwerwise we resume the strike».

The Daniel Scioli administration affirmed it is determined to improve lowest salary rates and to settle the payment of the 2013 wage hikes in advance, which were originally set to be paid in January next year.

Cabinet Chief Alberto Pérez assured, «the government showed again its attention to the citizens’ demands.»
