Neuquén lifts Copahue red alert

policeCrisis Committee working at the volcano-threatened province of Neuquén decided to lift the read alert issued in recent days facing increasing seismic activity of the Copahue Volcano. Evacuated residents should be returning back home tomorrow.

Municipal authorities and committee members will be going over the tourist-haven Caviahue town -some 1,500 kms southwest of Buenos Aires-, with services starting to be resumed.

Around 600 people were forced to be evacuated as a result of the stirring volcano. They will be allowed to get back to their homes tomorrow.

The Copahue is located some 500 km south of the Chilean capital Santiago, between Chile’s Bio Bio region and Argentina’s Neuquén province. Chile had also declared a red alert and ordered the mandatory evacuation of affected areas.
