The Senate whitewash session has been announced for 12 pm
Senators were addressing today the whitewashing bill that sets a tax amnesty plan allowing undeclared greenbacks’ access to the formal market and that most opposition blocs have resisted for «paving the way to money laundering.»
The government-sponsored move involves the creation of tax-free certificates, the Real Estate Investment Deposit (CEDIN) and the Argentine Bonds for Economic Development (BAADE).
The Opposition attended the debate that started by noon, taking to the floor a joint rejection strategy. Only a few days ago, main anti-kirchnerite blocs announced they will seek to repeal the bill if they manage to regain control of Congress after October’s legislative elections.
“Once majority stakes in Congress change we will repeal laws,” Radical Party Ricardo Gil Lavedra had said while Disident Peronism lawmaker Enrique Thomas threatened to “show those who support the whitewash up, we are giving them time so that those who have doubts think about it.”
As anticipated by head of the Kirchnerite caucus in the Senate Miguel Ángel Pichetto, the ruling Victory Front secured the 33-vote quorum needed for today’s session.
Once the bill is approved by senators, it should be reaching the Lower House on May 29 when it is expected to be signed into law given the government’s control of both Houses of Congress
