The Foreign Ministry has received “no formal notification” about Iran’s approval of the Memorandum of Agreement signed with the Islamic Republic to probe the 1994 AMIA attack.
According to an official statement issued by the office headed by Héctor Timerman, only once the formal notification is received by the Foreign Ministries of Argentina and Iran «the deal will be put into operation».
Iranian Business Commissioner to Buenos Aires Ali Pakdaman yesterday confirmed that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had legitimized the agreement that allows the creation of a Truth Commission to work on the AMIA investigation.
In statements to local media, Pakdaman said that the accord had been approved by “Government organizations” in Tehran and added that parliamentary process “is not normally needed in (such) Memorandum” cases in the Middle East country.
Jewish community groups AMIA and DAIA echoed the news renewing their fierce criticism of Iran and considering it holds «no cooperation position» to help unveil the truth about the bombing of the AMIA community center in Buenos Aires that killed 85 people in 1994.
