US President Barack Obama said today the United States would keep increasing pressure on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to stop the «appalling violence» in Syria, and was still investigating the reported use of chemical weapons there.
«We will continue to work to establish the facts around the use of chemical weapons in Syria and those facts will help guide our next steps,» Obama told a joint news conference at the White House with British Prime Minister David Cameron.
Cameron said he saw an «urgent window of opportunity» before «worst fears» in Syria would be realized, and said Britain would double its non-lethal support to Syrian opposition forces in the coming year.
Cameron’s three day visit will finish in New York where he is expected to take part in UN talks on agreeing new global development goals.
