I didn’t know about Ralph Lauren bribes, Echegaray

The head of the AFIP tax bureau Ricardo Echegaray, testified as a witness in the Ralph Lauren scandal, involving bribes payments to custom’s agents and Government officials which has recently come into light in the United States.

Echegaray assures, he didn’t have a clue about bribes to the custom’s agents during his leadership of this Government institution between 2004 and 2008.

AFIP issued a lawsuit to investigate alleged irregularities during the performance of Ralph Lauren business activities in Argentina. Additionally, AFIP suspended CUIT identity number of the company, its managers, attorney and custom’s agents who used to work for the Argentine local chapter.

Echegaray sent a letter to the ambassador of the United States in Buenos Aires, Vilma Martínez, where he detailed all action steps that AFIP would apply regarding to alleged bribes the company performed during its business in Argentina.
