Opposition leaders sign statement against judicial reform

Party leaders from the UCR, FAP, PRO, Civic Coalition, Proyecto Sur and dissident Peronism signed a joint document that rejects judicial reform promoted by the President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

Leaders Mauricio Macri, Hermes Binner, Francisco de Narváez, Ricardo Alfonsín, Mario Barletta and Fernando Solanas signed a joint statement rejecting the Government’s «attempt to control the Justice system.» Several union representatives, intellectuals, businessmen and NGOs also added their signatures to the document.

The so-called «anti-Kirchnerite» coalition assured it will look for more signatures to be added to the document, so that all citizens can join the initiative.

Next Tuesday at 12.00 pm the coalition will meet in the Courthouse to discuss further measures.

The document says that the Government tries ‘to suppress independence of judges, modifying the Republican regime established by the Constitution; and to violate rights and freedom of all Argentine citizens’.
