CFK presents judicial reform plans

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner assured that all members of the Council of Magistrates would be elected by the popular vote and people from all areas of society will be able to be candidates so the organization stops being “a lawyer-only corporate body.”

“The election process will take place through the PASO method,” she said after introducing the draft bill which will be sent to Congress in order to enact a reform of the judicial system. She clarified, however, that all current offices will remain untouched.

Speaking from the Bicentenary Museum, the President announced that the sweeping reform would take place through six different laws that will be sent to Congress in the next few hours.

“This was something we owed ourselves. A part will be sent to the Senate and the other to the Lower House,” she said.
