Buenos Aires province Governor Daniel Scioli has confirmed that 51 people were killed by the torrential rains registered in La Plata and that 1,000 residents remained evacuated.
At a late hour, BA province Justice and Security minister Ricardo Casal once again confirmed that the death toll remained at 51 and said that “officials had extensively canvassed the area, with 5,940 homes searched without any new fatal victims found.»
Earlier, Security Secretary Sergio Berni had informed earlier today that “there are more than 20 people missing in La Plata and the Buenos Aires province’s capital surrounding areas.”
Berni also assure that by today’s morning “the waters have drained completely”, and now he’s focused on working along with the National, Provincial and Municipal Crisis Committee created to bring humanitarian assistance to the affected residents.
The official also assured that the Committee is distributing food supplies with the help of members of the Red Cross, Army, Borders’ Guard, and Navy Patrol.
Likewise, Berni explained that the Borders’ Patrol is also “powering all telephone antennas in the area so that lines can be up and running as soon as possible.”
Meanwhile, La Plata’s Mayor Pablo Bruera told reporters that “100,000 households were devastated by the floods”.
Bruera also explained that his administration has “600 people working in the streets.”
