Once crash investigation closed, case moves closer to trial

Federal Judge Claudio Bonadío closed the Once train crash investigation, in which 51 people died on February 22, 2012, asking to start the proceedings so that the case could go to trial.

Defendants in the case include former Transport Secretary Juan Pablo Schiavi and Ricardo Jaime, among others.

Court sources said that the judge signed the documents to close the investigation and asked that both the plaintiffs and public prosecutors present give their opinion over taking the case to trial.

Yesterday, following an order made by the government, Platform 2 at Once station, where the tragedy occurred almost two years ago, was reopened. The measure received criticism by family members of the crash victims.

Interior and Transport Minister Florencio Randazzo defended the action and highlighted the work the government is doing to improve the railway lines.
