Timerman denies Argüello’s shift caused by rift with Moreno

Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman rejected claims that Jorge Argüello’s transfer from Ambassador to the US, to that of Portugal was linked with a rift with Domestic Trade Secretary Guillermo Moreno.

“Moreno does not put in place, nor remove ambassadors,” Timerman said, while defending the government’s decision to “change the face” of their diplomatic representation in Washington.

In statements on Radio del Plata today, the foreign minister added that Argüello “was informed” of the changes to be made in the embassies and that “the US was amongst those on the list.”

Yesterday, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner replaced Argüello’s post as ambassador to the United States with economist Cecilia Nahón.
