Federal Police Chief tenders resignation

Federal Police Chief Enrique Capdevilla tender his resignation to Security Minister Nilda Garré early this morning.

Later today, Presidential Spokesman Alfredo Scoccimarro announced during a short press conference that Román Di Santo was going to replace Capdevilla as the head of the force.

The reasons are still unknown, but Capdevilla’s decision comes after last night incidents and clashes between Police forces and protestors repudiating the acquittal of all suspects in the Marita verón case at Tucuman province embassy in Buenos Aires City; and Boca Juniors fans at the Obelisk where celebrations for the so called ‘Boca’s fan day’ was being held by thousands of people.

Last night BA City Security Minister Guillermo Montenegro had aimed to the Federal Police and the national government as well for the lootings carried on by Boca fans at the Obelisco area by warning that police freed the zone.

«The Federal Police showed this unbelievable passive attitude before what was happening in their noses.»

This is not the first time that the City administration reports a clear lack of cooperation coming from the Federal Police as part of the ongoing dispute between President Cristina Fernández and City Mayor Mauricio Macri who has already revealed his presidential hopes for 2015.
