President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner today assured the government will pay all its financial obligations to bond holders who joined the 2005 and 2010 debt swaps, during a speech to close the annual UIA Industrial Union conference.
«We constitute the counter model of a world where the financial capital has become the king and wants to punish us,» the president stressed in reference to vulture funds.
She added: «We have been accurately paying since 2005 with resources of our own and we’ll keep on paying to honour our country’s obligations.»
She earlier met with her Brazilian counterpart Dilma Rousseff, who in a previous speech asked to reduce trade asymmetries between Argentina and Brazil.
Over 1,200 businessmen attended the event which was held at the Sofitel Hotel in Los Cardales, Buenos Aires province. Union president José Ignacio De Mendiguren and province Governor Daniel Scioli were amongst those who gave speeches yesterday.
Government officials who attended the event today include Planning Minister Julio de Vido, Industry Minister Débora Giorgi, Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman, Science and Technology minister Lino Barañao and the Argentine Ambassador to France, Aldo Ferrer.
