Media kneels before Messi’s goal record

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has broken former Brazil international Pele’s scoring record of 75 goals during one calendar year, and the Spanish media has already put him above all.

Spanish sports media praised the striker. “Sport” newspaper remembered how “big” Messi is that he is competing with no others than true legends as Pelé and Gerd Müller.

Furthermore, “Mundo Deportivo” remarked that the Argentine’s game “has the best of Pelé and Müller. He’s as good or even better than the Brazilian and as effective as the German bomber but much more elegant and virtuous.”

Teammate Andrés Iniesta showed all his admiration for “la pulga” and told reporters “He is unique and that’s why he breaks all records out there”

«O Rei» had achieved 75 in 1958 with Santos and the Brazilian national team, after 53 matches. Messi, with Barça and Argentina, has reached 76 in 59 games.

The Argentine World Player of the Year is also closing in on the record for a calendar year of 85 set by German Gerd Müller in 1972.

Messi has 15 in La Liga, four ahead of Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi, who achieved his second Ballon D’Or in season 2011-2012, is strengthening his condition for a new Ballon D’Or that will be announced in January at Zurich by the International Federation (FIFA).
