Former Economy Minister, Felisa Miceli, refused to give testimony in the trial against her that started today. The former oficial is accused of hiding and destroying evidence to when a bag full of cash was found in her office in 2007; an incident which caused her to resign.
“I’d rather testify some other time. My attorneys have told me that I can respond to any questions some other time and not today”, Miceli told the judge.
Police officers were checking Miceli’s office before she arrived as one the usual daily patrols they used to conduct, when they found a paper bag with 100,000 pesos and 31,670 dollars in bathroom.
Before leaving Miceli said “I’m not guilty, and hope that everything will set straight as far as the allegations come along.”
The prosecutor of the case, Guillermo Marijuán, believes the money had an illicit origin. The beginning of the trial, the allegations of both sides and the verdict will be televised to the public.
