The Lower House of Congress approved the reform of the ART risk insurance law by 139 votes in favour and 82 against.
The bill was approved after an eight-hour debate, and counted with the votes in favour of the pro-government bloc and PRO lawmakers.
The government-sponsored bill was mainly approved by the pro-government bloc lawmakers and by the party headed by Buenos Aires City Mayor Mauricio Macri, PRO.
Those who voted against the reform were the lawmakers from the Radical Party, Broad Progressive Front, Peronist Front, Civic Coalition and Proyecto Sur bloc.
The session began a few minutes before 12pm, when the Victory Front bloc mustered quorum at the floor to begin the discussion without the presence of the opposition.
Lawmaker Héctor Recalde, from the Kirchnerite bloc and former assessor of the CGT Labour Confederation, was one of the two lawmakers that abstained from voting.
Meanwhile, lawmakers Facundo Moyano and Omar Plaini were present during the debate, were they assured they were against the reform, but left the floor by the time the voting began.
Another lawmaker that voted against the Executive branch sponsored bill was Victory Front’s Jorge Rivas.
The ART law reform eliminates the «double option,» by which the injured worker or his family could collect the ART compensation or claim a higher compensation in a trial.
The bill was preliminary approved by the Upper House on October 3, with 41 votes in favour and 19 against.
