Macri vetoes non-punishable abortion law

Buenos Aires City Mayor Mauricio Macri signed the veto of the non-punishable abortion law that had been approved a month ago by the Legislature, stating that «it has prescriptions that exceed the guidelines set by the National Supreme Court of Justice.»

Macri had already announced ten days ago that he was going to veto the law. «The bill approved by the Legislature contains regulations that exceed the guidelines of the Supreme Court ruling,» read the document.

Despite the veto, the city Government ratified the Health Ministry’s 1252 Resolution that applied the ruling of the Supreme Court.

This resolution sets that those women who were victims sexual abuse can interrupt their pregnancy in City Public Hospitals by presenting a sworn statement without the need of a judicial authorization.
