City Deputy Mayor María Eugenia Vidal said tht the City will appeal the ruling that prevented that the first non-punishable abortion from being performed on Tuesday.
Vidal confirmed the appeal will be filed because the Judge Myriam Rustán de Estrada’s ruling does not abide by the Supreme Court’s ruling on non punishable abortions.
The surgery was scheduled to be carried out on a 32-year-old woman who was victim of human trafficking and become pregnant after being raped. Pro-Vida and ProFamilia, two anti-choice organizations filed an appeal to stop the abortion from being performed.
“It is unfair to provide relief for one of the victims suppressing the life of the other one. It is not possible to repair a damage by doing an even greater and irreversible one”, Judge Rustán de Estrada said to justify her ruling.
