While attending a rally in Neuquén, the head of the CGT labour confederation, Hugo Moyano, called on workers to “prepare for battle” as he launched a campaign to collect a million signatures asking for the expansion of the universal child allowance programme and an increase of the income tax floor.
“Let’s be prepared, this is a battle,” he said before a large crowd at the Río Negro, Neuquén and La Pampa Private Oil & Gas Union headquarters, along with the organization’s head and CGT second in command Guillermo Pereyra.
“We’ve come here with this popular initiative to suggest the creation of a bill so that those that claim to have embraced the Peronist cause finally put and end to the discrimination of the workers’ movement,” the teamster said.
“Whoever is against our demands is betraying the very principles of the Justicialist party,” he warned in clear defiance to the National Government.
Moyano repeated that with the help of the CGT lawmakers in Congress he would introduce a bill detailing the organization’s 21 demands.
“We need to wake up. They will not be able to hide, they will have to show themselves in order to giver workers a response, and raise the income tax floor, which is currently a disgrace,” he said.
