The leader of one of the Central Argentine Workers Union (CTA) factions, Pablo Micheli assured today that the labour union would call a “national strike” for the first fortnight of October, in protest against the “shameful” new minimum wage rate.
According to the union leader they are “planning a national strike, because this cannot stay like this. We’re hoping to get the CGT run by Hugo Moyano involved too.”
Micheli made the statements today in a local radio interview and although the strike did not yet have a fixed date, it would include “rallies across the country including a mass march to the Plaza de Mayo.”
The minimum wage rate, which goes into effect in February, was announced last night by the Government at a rate of $2,875 pesos while the labour movement demands at least a $5,000 peso monthly rate.
