Unions clash with police in Córdoba city, several injured

High voltage scenes were seen this morning in Córdoba city as provincial clerks’ unions clashed with police infantry teams amidst protest against the pension system reform triggered by Governor José Manuel De la Sota. Police infantry arrived to supress protestors by firing rubber bullets and tear gas canisters.

Protesters counter attacked by throwing rocks and fire crackers.

Unions were marching toward the province’s court house to protest the governor’s pension system reform plan, which includes delaying all pension hikes for six months, and the announcement of quitting the Fiscal Pact after the national governement delayed the payment of the federal tax income distribution programme, also known as «coparticipation funds».
Likewise, unionists indicated that their intention was to submit a precautionary order asking the provincial Judiciary to halt De la Sota’s decision for considering it «unconstitutional».
