Subway: Workers confirm sixth day of strike on Thursday

After failing again to come to an agreement, unionists confirmed the decision to extend the subway strike one more day. “The City Government is responsible for this,” spokesman Enrique Rossito explained, and once again called on all parties involved in the conflict to convene to discuss salaries.

A meeting was expected to take place on Wednesday morning, but parties failed to appear.

Commuters in Buenos Aires City were left with no subway service for the fifth consecutive day on Wednesaday.

The meeting between Subway workers’ delegates and Metrovías authorities at the City’s Court headed by Judge Patricia López Vergara was suspended.
The strike began last Friday night and has been affecting thousands of passengers everyday, causing transport delays and heavier traffic across the city.

The conflict surrounds wage hikes and better working conditions for staff and in all of the negotiation talks held up to now, an accord has not yet been reached.
