The head of the metal workers’ union, Antonio Caló, was ratified as a secretary general of the parallel, anti-Moyano CGT organization, which will be created in October after the many comings and goings related to his appointment and the existing among its members.
“Caló is the only candidate we have. If he maintains his candidacy then he will surely become our Secretary General,” the leader of the so-called CGT “fat cats,” Héctor Daer, who acted as spokesman during the Board Meeting of the anti-Moyano organization, which met at the OUM City headquarters.
The leaders of this sector of the CGT, currently engaged in dialogue with the Government, managed to gather the 18 Board members necessary to muster quorum, and defined a new date to hold the Confederal Committee, scheduled to take place on September 5th.
In the meantime, the election day has been set for October 3rd, when Caló is expected to be elected as Secretary General.
Last Wednesday, Caló ratified his candidacy to lead the anti-Moyano faction of the CGT but admitted “we must wait and see” what his fellow union men say on the matter.
“I personally, confirm that the CGT secretary general is Caló, but we must wait and see what the guys say” Caló explained as he entered a meeting of anti-Moyano unionists at the taxi drivers union last week.
Yesterday, Planning Minister Julio de Vido said “anti-Moyano dissidents represent 70% of the Argentine work force.»
