Buzzi: ‘We see an alliance with Moyano as very viable’

Small-scale growers in grain powerhouse might be moving closer to an alliance with CGT labour confederation leader Hugo Moyano, the head of the Argentine Agrarian Federation (FAA), Eduardo Buzzi signaled today.

The move could represent a blow to President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner´s administration who, on the past months, has been involved in a public quarrel with Moyano.

“We see the possibility of an alliance with Moyano as very viable,» said the FAA boss during a radio interview today.

Buzzi said farmers «very possibly» could stage a march with Moyano.

«There are those in the labour movement who don’t want anything to do with the farm lobby because of the presence of the Rural Society (which represents larger farms and their often politically conservative owners),» remarked Buzzi.

«But they look favourably upon the Agrarian Federation.»

Growers claim government policies such as a 35-percent tax on soybean exports and a ceiling on global wheat and corn shipments are bad for business.
