Prosecutor José María Campagnoli, who is investigating the murder of Gonzalo Saucedo at River’s Monumental stadium last weekend, assured that «the collusion between hooligans and club’s authorities is proven for as long as they have a place to keep the flags and drums.»
«I remain skeptical about any help coming from the club’s authorities,» he added and affirmed that what happens in River Plate also «happens in many other footbakk clubs.»
Campagnoli explained that this case is not a «personal vendetta,» but the search for justice.
«I’m investigating a homicide, not (Daniel) Passarella.»
Regarding the murder suspect at large, identified as Matías «El Mati» Soria, the prosecutor admitted they continue a «non-stop» search for him.
Campagnoli met with National Security Secretary Sergio Berni earlier and stated after the meeting that «he has shown political will and shared some ideas to erradicate the hooligans issue.»
After admitting that «there are is no untouchable person for the DA,» Campagnoli spoke about the hooligan problem in the football world, and added that «the problem will be solved when every person involved has the will to stop it.»
Earlier, Campagnoli assured that the case had been “solved,” but accused the River Plate club of “not collaborating” with investigators, an allegation that the club’s authorities rejected.
The prosecutor also blasted the Club for not ensuring the public’s safety during the game.
According to witnesses’ reports, Saucedo was involved in a fight between two groups of River Plate’s hooligans inside the Monumental Stadium and while the game’s first half was still being played.
The local press informed the suspect’s house was raided by the police, but he was not found and remains a fugitive.
On Monday, Police officers and inspectors led a raid at the River Plate’s Monumental Stadium. Nevertheless, the cameras of the stadium did not film what had happened.
As a result, security personnel in charge of the security footage may be suspended.
