Argentine soy prices fall, trade dries up

BUENOS AIRES: Argentina’s closing soy prices and trends on Monday: * Soy prices in Rosario closed at 1,450 pesos per tonne ($324) compared with Friday’s 1,479 pesos, pressured by losses in near-month contracts in the Chicago Board of Trade, traders said. Trade volume was virtually zero.

* Nearby July soybean futures on the Chicago Board of Trade were lower at the close of pit trading on Monday as traders exited long soybean/short corn spreads. But back months rose on anticipation that funds would roll long nearby positions forward, traders said.

* Trucks hauled their normal loads of corn and soybeans into Argentina’s main grains hub of Rosario on Monday, but a sales freeze called by farmers protesting a tax hike in the country’s top farm province slowed business at No. 2 port Bahia Blanca.
