The Government today declared oil exploration activities by five British companies in the Argentine continental shelf in proximity to the Malvinas Islands «illegitimate and clandestine.»
In five resolutions published today in the Official Gazette and signed by the Energy Secretariat, the Government reported five companies, Rockhopper Exploration, Desire Petroleum Public Limited Company, Argos Resources, Falkland Oil and Gas Limited and Borders & Southern Petroleum, «for not having authorization, concession or license given by competent authorities of the Argentine government.»
These companies’ activities «are illegitimate and clandestine as they are being carried out within an area which belongs to the Sovereignty of the Argentine Republic and on the fringes of what its laws and specific statutes order,» the resolutions added.
