Labour Minister Carlos Tomada.
After Labour vice-minister Noemí Rial announced on Monday that the income tax floor would be raised in “late June or early July,” other Government officials were forced to make a statement and warned that “these decisions are never unveiled before hand in order to avoid speculation or creating false expectations.”
According to a news cable by the Telam state agency, Labour Ministry officials assured they were “surprised” by Rial’s statements saying that a date had been set to raise the income tax floor.
“The Labour Ministry has nothing to report regarding that matter,” sources in the ministry said.
Earlier, after Rial’s statements, many thought that the Government had finally agreed to raise the income tax next month or in early July.
The last time the income tax floor was raised was in April 2011.
The new AFIP resolutions stated that any single employee with no children had to start paying income tax if they earned more than 5,972 pesos.
For married employees with two or more kids, the income tax floor was 7,998 pesos.
