Juan Martín Fresneda, lawyer, Kirchnerite activist and son of a disappeared couple during the last dictatorship, has been appointed Human Rights Secretary, following the death of his predecessor, Eduardo Luis Duhalde, one month ago.
Fresneda, 36, was working as the head of the Córdoba ANSeS social security agency prior to his new appointment, and is also one of the founders of the H.I.J.O.S organization founders in the same province.
His appointment was made official by way of decree 725, published in the Official Gazette, signed by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, Cabinet Chief, Juan Manuel Abal Medina and Justice and Human Rights Minister, Julio Alak.
Fresneda’s parents, Tomás Fresneda and María Argañarez, were both disappeared in July 1977 in Mar del Plata on the night labelled the “Night of the Ties” (Noche de las Corbatas, in Spanish). When they were captured, his mother was four months pregnant.
In terms of his history in politics, aside from having led the H.I.J.O.S group in Córdoba, Fresneda is also one of the members at the forefront of the Kirchnerite group “La Jauretche” in the city and also a representative for the Victory Front (FpV) party.
