The bus and subway drivers’ union (UTA) announced a 24-hour strike that would affect all subway lines as well as the Premetro tram on Thursday, in response to failed salary negotiations.
UTA’s press secretary Mario Calegare confirmed that both UTA and Metrovías had failed to come to an agreement at the Labour Ministry headquarters, for which the union decided to go on strike on Thursday.
“This is all a result of Metrovías intransigence,” the press release said.
The meeting took place on Av. Leandro N. Alem 600 and was supervised by the Ministry’s Cabinet Chief, Norberto Ciaravino.
A representative from the City government failed to attend the meeting.
Subway union delegate Roberto Pianelli explained that Metrovías “ratified that they have no money to raise salaries,” but warned that his organization has yet to make a decision regarding UTA’s announcement and explained that “workers will convene tomorrow in order to decide our next steps.”
“We may join UTA and go on strike or not. We will discuss that with the staff tomorrow and reach a decision at 11 am,” he closed.
